Bike Maintenance Basics

Chain lube, brake check, tire pressure – with these steps your bike stays in top condition and you save expensive workshop visits.

After every ride

Quick check, 2 minutes:

Weekly

Check tire pressure

The right pressure is printed on the tire sidewall (e.g. "2.5–4.5 bar"). Too little pressure increases rolling resistance and puncture risk. Too much pressure reduces comfort and traction.

Lubricate chain

Drip chain oil on the inside of the chain while pedaling backwards. Then wipe excess lube with a rag. Never use WD-40 as permanent lube – it dries out too quickly.

Monthly

Money-saving tip

A timely chain replacement (€15–30) saves you an expensive cassette and chainring change (€80–200). Invest in a chain checker – it costs under €10.
